Jody West was born in Warburton, where she has spent her whole life. She began painting as a teenager, learning from her mother, who used to paint at the old Warburton Art Project. From her, Jody learned both the techniques of painting and the cultural knowledge connected to the stories of the land. Today, Jody continues this family tradition by painting side by side with her daughter, Phillipa Butler. Working together at the art centre, they share knowledge, stories, and skills across generations. Through her work, Jody carries forward the cultural teachings passed down in her family, keeping these stories strong within the community.
