Melissa Holland was born in Warburton, where she has strong connections to family and community. She began learning to paint when she was young, guided by her mother, Elisabeth Holland, who passed on both artistic skills and cultural knowledge. Growing up surrounded by painting, Melissa developed her practice through family teaching and shared time in the studio. Through her work, she continues to reflect the stories and traditions she learned from her mother. Painting remains an important way for her to stay connected to culture, family, and the ongoing life of the art centre.
